The European Union has been crystal clear: employee safety and health in the workplace must be a top priority. For those who fail to comply with the new regulations, there are hefty fines and, in the most serious cases, criminal proceedings.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Italy on March 12, the following officially came into effect. <\/span>legislative decree no. 17\/2019<\/span> “on personal protective equipment and repealing Council Directive 89\/686\/EEC,” which makes explicit the guidelines for the design and manufacture of personal protective equipment – PPE – and responds to European Regulation (EU) No. 2016\/425.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Regulation will affect all PPE produced within the European Union, but will also apply to products imported from third countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

The consequences for those who fail to comply? Financial penalties of 8,000 to 48,000 euros for first-category PPE, which protects the worker from minimal risks, and 10,000 to 16,000 euros for second-category PPE. Far greater, however, are the penalties for third-category PPE, known as “the lifesavers”: noncompliance with the Regulations carries an arrest from 6 months to 3 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

People have always been the backbone of any company. It is therefore essential to protect them in the best way possible. The aim of these maneuvers is to ensure the health and safety of workers, but also fair competition in the European market.<\/span><\/p>\n
