On Wednesday, July 5, the conference “Digital tourism: an engine for the country’s growth” will be held in Rome. The goal of the event will be to identify the state of Italian tourism offerings today and propose innovations that go through digital and web marketing.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference was organized with the support of Venicecom and under the patronage of ENIT (National Tourism Agency), the Digital Italy Agency, the National Youth Agency, Roma Capitale and the I Sud nel Mondo Foundation. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, in Rome, at the headquarters of the CIVITA Association, Piazza Venezia, 11 inside the Gianfranco Imperatori Room.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference<\/span><\/a> will be attended by speakers from the business, institutional and academic worlds as well as freelancers, including: Andrea Marin, Manager of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Simonetta Giordani, Manager and Former Undersecretary of State for Tourism; and Filippo Renga, Director of the Digital Innovation in Tourism Observatory of the Milan Polytechnic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Welcoming participants and introducing the main themes of the conference will be Mauro Nicastri -President of the Italian Digital Revolution Association- and Adriano Meloni -Assessor for Economic Development, Tourism and Labor Roma Capitale.<\/span><\/p>\n

The objective of the Conference is to establish a constructive debate that, starting from the analysis of the status quo of the tourism sector in Italy, arrives at the creation of proposals and suggestions for the digital evolution of Italian tourism, thanks also to the support of appropriate web marketing activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

To analyze the status quo of the tourism sector in Italy, we will start from the recent research conducted by Google in collaboration with Unioncamere, which reports data collected through the Eccellenze Digitali program (which we have already discussed in this article<\/span><\/a>). The research revealed that 25 percent of Italian SMEs in the tourism sector either do not have a site for their business or have a very old one. Among SMEs that do have a site, however, only 18 percent conduct online promotion activities through direct marketing activities (i.e., that do not go through aggregator portals such as Expedia or booking.com).<\/span><\/p>\n
